We miss seeing your beautiful children at the school.  Currently, the school is closed.  Our wonderful custodian, Fano, is there during the week making sure the building is safe and clean for when we are able to welcome everyone back in.  I hope virtual schooling is going well for you but remember, just do your best.  All three of my children have kids in Canyons District schools (2nd grade through 10th grade) and so I know very well what you are each going through and you are to be commended.

This week is SPRING BREAK.  I have asked the teachers not to even look at their emails for a week. I will also try hard to disconnect.  Please understand if we do not answer you at all this week.  Tell your kids we all said to just try and have some fun this week.

Amy Beckert is our Teacher of the Year!!  We will be doing more celebrations with Amy once we get back to school.  Those of you that know her, know that she is well deserving of this honor.

We will make it through this.  This is probably the most difficult thing I have had to do in my 30 years in education.  We are all learning how to do it so please be patient with all of us.  We love and care for each one of your children.  We worry when we don’t see them on line or answering any of the teachers emails so please try your best to at least check in so we know you are safe and healthy.  For those of you that are not well, please take care of yourselves.  We so want to see you again.  I am hopeful we will see you in May but whatever the coming weeks bring, we will do this as we work together.  I will keep you informed if anything changes with our being together again in May.

Wishing you all the best,

Christy Waddell, principal

Distance Learning Tips • Translators, Technical Assistance, and More!

We know distance learning is new to many of our families. But you’re not alone.

Public schools throughout the country — and the students and families they serve — are settling into a new normal as we heed calls for social distancing to stop the spread of COVID-19. These are challenging and uncertain times for us all.

But as we dig into online lessons this week, remember the needs of your family will dictate what is manageable. If you, or your child, are feeling overwhelmed, or your circumstances don’t allow for the time needed to complete assignments, reach out to your child’s teacher or counselor to discuss ideas for managing and prioritizing the learning load. And if you’re in need of technical support to trouble-shoot Canvas or other computer-related issues, we can help! We also have interpreters on standby to aid those in need of translation services.

COVID-19 Action Plan and Updates

Is Spring Recess still happening as planned? Is the school year being extended to accommodate make-up days? What is Canyons doing to support at-home learning? The dismissal of all 50 CSD schools and programs as a preemptive measure to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 has generated a lot of questions, and it’s important that families know where they can go for timely information they can trust. Canyons District has created a web portal where students, parents and employees can find the latest announcements and developments. Government guidelines are changing rapidly, and we’ll updating our community on a regular basis, so please bookmark this link for future reference. The Canyons Board of Education and Administration wish to express appreciation for the community’s support and efforts and diligence of our employees as we pull together to keep our communities healthy and safe.
