DRAGON DELIVERY                                                                                                                  SEPTEMBER 10, 2017

From Principal Christy Waddell

DRAGON DASH:  The PTA is sponsoring this Fundraiser.  Please support this by having your children bring back their yellow envelopes with donations.  The Dash will be at Corner Canyon High School at 5:30pm on September 18th.  Please come and join us.

EXTENDED LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES:  These will begin this week!

PARKING LOT ISSUES:  I realize our parking lot is not very easy to maneuver around.  We are trying hard to keep the students as safe as possible while also getting you in and out as quickly as possible.  Please do not EVER park in the red curb areas.  We have teachers and staff outside to help things move as quickly as possible so please follow their directions.  You can imagine it isn’t the easiest job so please treat them with respect.

REFLECTIONS:  The students watched a fun video on Friday to introduce the reflections contest.  The entries are due on October 6th.  You can find the papers needed to submit your entry inside the front doors.

AIR QUALITY:  We check the air quality often to determine whether or not students should go outside to play.  It looks like this week should be better.  If your child has asthma or a respiratory condition that puts them in a sensitive group, then please make sure the teacher is aware of that.

BOND:  The district is hoping to have a bond approved at the next election.  Please go to the district web site to see what they plan on spending the money on.  Two things that would impact this community would be the building of the wings at Corner Canyon High School and the building of a new elementary school in west Draper.

SALTA TESTING ANNOUNCED:  The window is September 11-October 4.  Go to this web site for more information and to sign up:  csdsalta.weebly.com

ART CONTEST:  Draper Beehive Homes is sponsoring an art contest titled “WHAT MY GRANDPARENTS TEACH ME”.  They can use any medium ie. Paint, chalk, pencil.  It needs to fit in an 8X10 frame.  It is due to the school office by Friday Morning September 8th.  There will be one winner from kinder-2nd grade and another winner from 3rd-5th grade.  Each Winner will receive $100 and their art work will be on display at the Draper Beehive home (711 Pioneer Road).  Adults can cast their vote at the Beehive Home on Thursday September 14th from 3:30-6:00pm.  Only Draper elementary will be represented so the winners will be from our school.

LUNCH CLERK POSITION:  The kitchen is looking for a lunch clerk.  The position is roughly 3 hours per day/15 hours per week and pays $13.45 per hour.  I do not hire for this position.  It is done through the district nutrition services department.  Please call them at 801-826-5381.

NEW PRINCIPAL INFO:  I enjoy mountain biking with my grandkids.  I am not a hard core mountain biker so mountain biking with pre-teens is just my speed.  My grandson at Draper Park Middle School is on their mountain biking team so I plan to be cheering him on.

HELLO:  I am so excited to be at Draper!!  I am sorry it has taken me so long to get a message out to you.  I actually broke my leg in a hiking accident in June and I have just started back to work.  You will see me cruising around with my knee scooter for the next few weeks.  Surgery went well and the prognosis is good.  Search and Rescue had to get me off the mountain so it was truly an adventure.

SCHOOL COMMUNITY COUNCIL:  We have openings on our School Community Council so I am attaching a copy of the nomination form if you are interested in serving on this very valuable committee.  We meet once a month at a time and date determined by everyone on the committee.

NEWSLETTER:  I will be sending you a newsletter each week with important information and dates.  I will call it the Dragon Delivery so watch for that in your inbox.

We will continue to develop and implement our Positive Behavior Supports for all students and adults at Draper.  Our school-wide expectations are that all Draper Dragons are Safe, Kind, and Responsible in all that they say and do.  In addition, Draper Elementary implements Restorative Practices and strives to support student citizenship, leadership, and service learning.

Draper Parent Teacher Association (PTA)
We are fortunate at Draper to have an active and supportive PTA.  We encourage you to join the Draper PTA -- we our proud that each year 100% of our faculty joins the PTA, and we are hoping for 100% PTA membership from our parent population. Please watch for PTA membership information to join.
