Principal’s News – November 2023

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life.  It turns what we have into enough.” Melody Beattle

Fall is in the air.  Snow is just around the corner.  Shhh, don’t tell a few of us this news.  Some of us prefer the warmer weather.  This time of year, we encourage you to dress your students in layers.  Send a jacket, hat, sweatshirt, or sweater for when the chill is in the air.

What are you thankful for? Let November be a month where you start a family journal to keep track of all you are thankful for. This is a great way to reflect on the positive in your life, community, and world.  You can write down a few words or ideas each morning or at dinner time.  Being thankful is a great way to create a positive environment.

Dragon Desirable Tips

  1. Feeling like you need a sack? Grab a piece of fruit, a handful of nuts, an avocado.  Eating healthy foods first will reduce your desire to make unhealthy choices.
  2. Put on some dancing music….and then, DANCE!  You’ll burn calories and your kids just might join you.
  3. Drink a full glass of water before each meal.  Many times, we think we are hungry when we are really thirsty.

The life skill for the month of November is ‘finding the good’. There are so many ways that we can seek out and appreciate the good and positive things in life. With this theme we wanted to focus more specifically on helping students look for and find the good in themselves, while appreciating others and finding the good in them as well. During our monthly theme about friendship in September, we found that a lot of students came to us feeling sad because they felt too different from others and felt that they couldn’t make friends because of it. We want to help children to appreciate differences and see that being different and unique is a positive thing. When children can exhibit self-confidence and develop positive thought patterns about themselves, others will naturally begin to see them that way as well. It’s important to remember that we can’t force others to like us or feel a certain way about us. The only person we can change is ourselves. We want to help our students change their negative narratives into positive ones which will in turn help them develop the skill of finding the good in themselves and in those around them. To reinforce this month’s life skill, Mrs. Kim or Mrs. Chelsey will be reading “Different – A Great Thing to Be” by Heather Avis. When you choose to see the good in others you end up finding the good in yourself” -John Spence

Red Flag Day – At 8:40am the office staff will make the decision for an inside morning.  When the real feel temperature drops below 22 degrees or the rain/snow is coming down hard, we will put out the red flag to inform students to come inside before school.  Please remember not to drop off your student before 8:40am, except for breakfast. We use the weather bug site https://www.weatherbug.com/weather-forecast/now/ as our source of accurate information.
