Canyons District's COVID-19 Action Plan, Updates | Read More >

August 31-September 4

Parents,

We made it through the first week of school with relatively few issues.  The cafeteria started out a bit rough but we have that down and kids are doing great.  Your children are amazing!!  They wear their masks with very little complaining going on.  The teachers are finding a routine of cleaning and teaching and love being back in the classroom with your children.

COVID:  Please do us a favor and let us know if anyone in your family tests positive for Covid and please keep kids home with symptoms.  Only a couple of kids have had to go home because of being sick.  I was worried it would be a lot more but you are all doing a great job checking your kids before you send them. As far as I know, not one adult of child has tested positive for Covid here at the school.  Because of privacy rules I will never tell you who is positive but I will hopefully be able to tell you what grade someone is in.  I still have not been given clear guidance on that but if the time comes, I will find out.

Parking Lot: Just a few reminders.  Do not go into the bus parking area.  Drop off is just as it was last year.  Thank you so much for pulling up as far as you can so we don’t get cars bunched up on the street too much.

Physical Distancing: This is so hard for the kids and we are constantly reminding them.  When the line up in the mornings I know they want to stand close and talk to their friends but that just is not the time to do that.  Our first graders are especially having trouble during recess not wrestling with each other.  They are doing it in fun but right now it is just not appropriate.  If you would please chat with them about how important this is right now, we would all appreciate it.

Online & Parent led instruction: You will find a wealth of information at this website:  parentconnections.canyonsdistrict.org

Thank you for your support! I am hoping if we all continue to do our best with the safety procedures we have in place then our school can remain open all year.

Contact Tracing, Isolation and Quarantines Only We Can Prevent Coronavirus, and Here’s How

Remember what Smokey Bear taught about preventing forest fires? The same imperative applies to COVID-19.

“It may sound cliché. But only we can prevent coronavirus. We all have a role and it’s up to us, each one of us, to do our part,” says Canyons District’s Responsive Services Director BJ Weller.

This fall, as classrooms bubble to life with the sounds of students going about the important business of learning, there are a uniform set of precautions schools will be taking to respond to suspected and confirmed cases of COVID-19, Weller says. Through contact tracing, school nurses and administrators will support local health officials in sleuthing out possible exposures in an effort to break chains of transmission before they take hold. The District also will follow state guidelines for determining when to place a classroom or school on quarantine.
