Halloween 2015!

Posted in News & Announcements

Our children will enjoy their traditional parade for each other within the school building and, if weather permits, we will parade through our nearby community where parents can view all of us. We’ve moved our parade to the morning so that you can bring your child to school all dressed up and ready to go; you also then have a chance to take pictures of your child before school begins.

9:00-9:45 School parade for students within the school building. Please send your child to school dressed and ready for the parade to start, as we will not be able to allow parents in the halls or classrooms during either the school or community parades.

9:45-10:45 Kindergarten parties (Kindergarten dismisses at 10:45.)

9:45-10:30 (Weather permitting) Our community parade will begin at the corner of the school parking lot and 12650 S. Students (grades 1-5) and staf will walk down the sidewalk on the south side of 12650 S, cross Fort Street and 12650 S, wind around the southern side of the Draper Historical Park, head north along 900 E, turn east and walk along the north edge of the Draper City Cemetery, turn southward on Fort Street and continue to the intersection at 12650 S, cross 12650 S and Fort Street again, and return to the school via 12650 S for class instruction and parties.

Parents and community members are welcome to view us along the parade route, inasmuch as you are not blocking our parade route or the flow of vehicle traffic.

Student Halloween Costume Expectations

In an efort to enjoy and celebrate Halloween at Draper Elementary appropriately, respectfully, and in accordance with school rules, we ask that students use the following guidelines when selecting a costume:

1. If your child has a favorite literature character, we encourage them to dress as that character and bring the book the character is from. If not, and the traditional Halloween costumes fit your style, please follow the guidelines below.

2. Head coverings, masks, or full face paint are not allowed. For safety reasons, staff members must be able to identify students.

3. Costumes that are provocative, revealing, sexual in nature, that depict violence, alcohol, or drugs are not permitted. Fake and real weapons are not allowed.

4. Costumes should not hinder a student’s ability to participate in class parties and in the parade. Please make sure your child can walk safely in his/her costume.

5. Students should wear clothing under the costume to avoid embarrassing wardrobe malfunctions.

6. It might be cold for the outdoor parade, so consider wearing sturdy shoes and warm layers. Students wearing questionable costumes will kindly and privately be asked to modify their costumes to make them appropriate for our school. Thank you for following these guidelines, as they will be enforced. We want your child to have a happy Halloween experience at school, and following these rules will help us ensure the safety and comfort of all students.
