ART CONTEST:  Draper Beehive Homes is sponsoring an art contest titled “WHAT MY GRANDPARENTS TEACH ME”.  They can use any medium ie. Paint, chalk, pencil.  It needs to fit in an 8X10 frame.  It is due to the school office by Friday Morning September 8th.  There will be one winner from kinder-2nd grade and another winner from 3rd-5th grade.  Each Winner will receive $100 and their art work will be on display at the Draper Beehive home (711 Pioneer Road).  Adults can cast their vote at the Beehive Home on Thursday September 14th from 3:30-6:00pm.  Only Draper elementary will be represented so the winners will be from our school.   

LUNCH CLERK POSITION:  The kitchen is looking for a lunch clerk.  The position is roughly 3 hours per day/15 hours per week and pays $13.45 per hour.  I do not hire for this position.  It is done through the district nutrition services department.  Please call them at 801-826-5381.

NEW PRINCIPAL INFO:  I enjoy mountain biking with my grandkids.  I am not a hard core mountain biker so mountain biking with pre-teens is just my speed.  My grandson at Draper Park Middle School is on their mountain biking team so I plan to be cheering him on.    

EXTENDED LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES:  These will start the week of September 11th!!

HELLO:  I am so excited to be at Draper!!  I am sorry it has taken me so long to get a message out to you.  I actually broke my leg in a hiking accident in June and I have just started back to work.  You will see me cruising around with my knee scooter for the next few weeks.  Surgery went well and the prognosis is good.  Search and Rescue had to get me off the mountain so it was truly an adventure. 

SCHOOL COMMUNITY COUNCIL:  We have openings on our School Community Council so I am attaching a copy of the nomination form if you are interested in serving on this very valuable committee.  We meet once a month at a time and date determined by everyone on the committee. 

NEWSLETTER:  I will be sending you a newsletter each week with important information and dates.  I will call it the Dragon Delivery so watch for that in your inbox.

Dear Draper Students and Parents,                                                                        
Welcome back! We are excited for the start of the new 2017-2018 school year.  
Back to School Night – Monday, August 21, 4:00-6:00 pm OPEN HOUSE
This is an evening for families to come and learn about what will be taking place this year in your child’s classroom, including grade level curriculum, general expectations, and events.  It is also a brief opportunity for your child to meet his/her teacher and visit the classroom just prior to the first day of school.  Our PTA will also be present to sign up members and volunteers.  At 5:00-5:15 we will hold a schoolwide meeting in Gym (no classrooms will be open at this time; all families will meet in the gym) for a PTA briefing.  

First Days of School and School Start/End Times
Grades 1-5: Wednesday, August 23, 8:40 - 3:20
Kindergarten: Monday, August 28, 8:40 - 11:25 A.M. classes or 12:40 - 3:20 P.M. classes

School Breakfast
Breakfast will be served every school day from 8:20-8:40 in the school cafeteria.  Regular breakfast prices are .90 for students and $2.00 for adults. Free and reduced breakfast (and lunch) is available for families that qualify (apply in the front office or apply online HERE).  Monthly Breakfast Menu

School Lunch

School-Wide Behavior Plan
We will continue to develop and implement our Positive Behavior Supports for all students and adults at Draper.  Our school-wide expectations are that all Draper Dragons are Safe, Kind, and Responsible in all that they say and do.  In addition, Draper Elementary implements Restorative Practices and strives to support student citizenship, leadership, and service learning.

Draper Parent Teacher Association (PTA)
We are fortunate at Draper to have an active and supportive PTA.  We encourage you to join the Draper PTA -- we our proud that each year 100% of our faculty joins the PTA, and we are hoping for 100% PTA membership from our parent population. Please watch for PTA membership information to join.
