Breanne Pixton is the School Social Worker at both Draper and Altara elementary schools. She comes to Canyons School District from Utah State University’s Master of Social Work Program, where she graduated May of 2018. She is licensed as a Certified Social Worker in the state of Utah and is working on four thousand clinical hours to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She worked in the Logan City School District for two years as a School Social Work Intern in the middle school setting during her master’s program, but has realized that she loves working with the younger grades in the elementary schools. Prior to grad school, Breanne graduated from the University of Utah in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Development and Family Studies, as well as a certificate in Applied Positive Psychology. She has experience working in a local residential treatment center with adolescents and teens from out of state who are dealing with severe behavioral problems and mental illnesses. She also had the opportunity to do an internship at Utah’s chapter of Make A Wish, where she got to see firsthand how a nonprofit organization runs. She is very passionate about social work, especially in the school setting where early intervention plays a key role with students who may be at a higher risk for major behavioral problems and mental illness. She is passionate about breaking the stigma surrounding mental illness. When Breanne is not working she loves spending time with her family, going to her family’s cabin during the summer and fall seasons, photography and reading. Breanne is a dog lover; she hopes to get a puppy of her own some day and train it to be a therapy dog that could work in the schools alongside her.
